Spelling Bee:
All students in grades four through eight participate in the annual spelling contest. The school winner then participates in the regions' Scripps competition sponsored by the Kokomo Tribune. The school champion and the runner-up are recorded on a plaque in our trophy case.
Geography Bee:
Grades four through eight participate each year in the National Geographic Geography Bee. The school champion then competes against other school winners in the state of Indiana where they have the possibility of being in the top 100 students; the next step is to compete at the state level, and hopefully, the national level. Our school champion and runner-up have their names on the plaque in the trophy case at the school.
Bible Quiz:
Students in the middle school compete annually in the Indianapolis Area Lutheran Schools' Bible Quiz held at Lutheran High School in Indianapolis. Each year the eight schools study one book of the Bible for four to six weeks; then they are tested as individuals and as teams to test their knowledge of the facts.
Fine Arts Festival:
The RLS Children's Choir performs as part of a mass choir of over 200 voices with Lutheran schools from Indianapolis and Lafayette every spring. They spend the day practicing and then performing a concert in the evening under the direction of a guest clinician. Students from pre-school through eighth grade also display art work that has been done during the year as part of the art show. Students in grades five through eight have their works of art judged, and ribbons are awarded. The date for this years Festival is April 29,2010
Science Fair:
All students are invited to participate in our annual Science Fair. Middle school projects are judged by a group of our own staff. The students are encouraged to then enter the Howard County Science Fair at IUK where they can win savings bonds for their future education.
